Thanks to everyone who showed up and worked so hard on the first day of our Urban Thicket Planting. We made some progress, and our next scheduled planting is Sunday, April 22, starting at 8:00 a.m. Everyone is welcome to bring a friend, and we’ll provide coffee and breakfast.

Everything is in place for the April 14 Urban Thicket Planting, and all we need is you!
Almost two years in the making, the BDC and our volunteers along with Mayor Ravenstahl’s Redd Up and Green Up Teams, Pittsburgh Public Works, the URA and Pomme de Terre are looking forward to making one of Bloomfield’s Gateways bloom!
To get your hands dirty and help with the planting, come to the Bloomfield Bridge at Liberty Avenue on Saturday, April 14 at 9 a.m. We will provide you with tools, gloves, coffee, a light breakfast and the satisfaction of turning what was once a space filled with Belgian block, weeds and litter into beautiful green space!
The Mayor will be stopping by at 10 a.m.

The BDC is asking for volunteers to help “redd up” Liberty Avenue on Sunday, September 18. We are getting ready for Little Italy Days on September 23, 24 and 25!
Join us for coffee, bagels and cream cheese at 9 a.m. Sunday morning in front of Fifth/Third Bank at Liberty & Cedarville.

We postponed our first 2011 Redd Up from Saturday to Sunday last weekend because of the weather, and it turned out to be no better, if not worse!
In spite of “rain, sleet and gloom of day,” we still had volunteers that showed up and made a noticeable dent in the litter on Liberty Avenue! A special thanks to Emma, Mike, Gracie, Brain and David!
Our next Redd Up is planned for Sunday, June 12 — mark your calendars and pray for sunshine!

The BDC set up in front of Starbucks, who donated hot coffee and served a light breakfast with help from Giant Eagle Market District. Although it was a little chilly, it was a beautiful day, and in just a couple of hours we collected over ten bags of trash!
We have the best group of volunteers ever! Thanks to everyone that helped!
If you’re not able to volunteer, you can still do your part by not tossing cigarettes and other litter on our sidewalks, streets and in our tree beds; and if you see litter, place it in a trash can!
