On Tuesday, June 10, at the Townie Awards Gala hosted by the Pennsylvania Downtown Center in Gettysburg, PA, the Bloomfield Business Association won the first place award in the Special Events/Promotion Category for our Little Italy Days Festival. The Townie Awards are held annually to recognize those communities that have developed and implemented outstanding programming or events within their communities that contribute towards the overall mission of the Pennsylvania Downtown Center, which is “to advance the sense of place, quality of life and economic vitality of Pennsylvania’s downtowns, traditional neighborhood business districts and nearby residential areas”. 2008 marks PDC’s eighteenth year honoring revitalization efforts and achievements.
Eight new surveillance cameras were installed in the business district as part of the BBA’s commitment to public safety and crime prevention. This project was made possible though the assistance of Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen Zappala.
The Bloomfield Business Association will be celebrating it’s sixth annual Little Italy Days Festival on September 28th, 29th and 30th, 2007.
Bloomfield businesses can take to the streets during the festival when over 20,000 people from three states will be our guests. The festival has free admission and activities for both young and old. There will be 10 musical and dance groups performing on the Main Stage at Liberty and Cedarville, along with strolling musicians throughout the weekend. Other activities include a pasta and pizza eating contest, an Italian Mass and Procession and chances to win many prizes, including a trip to Las Vegas.
Produced by the Bloomfield Business Association, this event helps to nurture Bloomfield’s Little Italy identity and in 2004 won the Mainstreets Pittsburgh “Special Events Award”.
