Posted by John on Friday, February 20, 2009 at 3:06 PM

Too true, Bloomfield, too true.
Bloomfield Bridge Tavern

After being struck by fire late in the evening on October 16, 2008, the best little Polish bar in Pittsburgh’s Lil’ Italy was forced to close for repairs. Now back open and celebrating their 23rd anniversary, the Bloomfield Bridge Tavern is throwing a grand reopening party.

The party starts at 5 PM tomorrow, February 21. According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, the 23rd anniversary will feature pierogies for 23 cents, beer specials, music by WRCT DJ Mockster and bands Mr. Devious and Teen Riot.

Admission is free. For more information, please contact Steve Frankowski at 412-682-8611.

Cancer Caring Center Celebrates 20th Anniversary

Posted by John on Friday, April 18, 2008 at 7:19 PM

In 1988, the Cancer Caring Center opened its doors in Bloomfield to welcome and support cancer patients and families, thanks to the efforts of some local community leaders and businesses. These ‘visionaries’ included Burger King franchisees, Heinz executives and health professionals who recognized the need to address the emotional impact of the diagnosis. Two decades later, the Center remains true to the initial mission: helping people move forward with a variety of free programs.

Steely McBeam, Bonnie Shields (Director of Support Services) and the kids enjoy Family Fun Day at the Center.

Services feature groups led by experienced facilitators at area locations including Monroeville, South Hills, McKeesport, McKees Rocks, Murrysville, Johnstown, Cranberry, North Hills, Butler, Jefferson, and Shadyside. They offer pet therapy for children at Animal Friends in the North Hills, children’s groups in Mt. Lebanon, yoga in Lawrenceville, daytime Breast Cancer group in Homewood, and young adults support in Bethel Park.

The Bloomfield Headquarters provides individual and couples counseling, children’s groups, a telephone helpline, reiki, couples therapy, wellness and stress management and groups for caregivers and brain tumor patients.

Thank YOU who believe in the Center and who have entrusted them with this vital mission of making a difference in the lives of patients and families.
