

After a year of planning and with input from the community, 12 Penn State third-year architecture students utilized the Bloomfield Recreation Center site for their academic exercise last term. On February 2, four Penn State professors along with the Bloomfield Development Corporation held a community meeting to present the best of the students’ work.
Over 30 residents and Councilmen Patrick Dowd came out in very cold weather to see the students’ models and presentations, and weren’t disappointed!
The Bloomfield Development Corporation is working with West Penn Hospital to display the students’ work for everyone to have another chance to see the vision of our Recreation Center through the eyes of these talented and creative students!

RCH Pittsburgh LLC (building owner) has applied for a zoning variance (911.03B) for the organization Social Association for Pittsburgh Professionals (S.A.P.P.) to open a 4,000-square-foot social club for special events on the second floor of #0 Sassafras Street (the blue building next to the Herron Avenue Bridge, near Liberty Avenue & 33rd Street). S.A.P.P. has also applied for a liquor license.

East End Book Exchange is a general-interest used bookstore located at 4754 Liberty Avenue in Bloomfield. EEBX was founded in the summer of 2011 as a pop-up bookstore, setting up bookstalls in different East End neighborhoods each weekend. They recently settled into a storefront location in Bloomfield, and had their grand opening celebration last Friday, November 16.
