The Pittsburgh Pirates and Chaz Kellem provided vouchers for a day at PNC Park as a reward for neighborhood volunteers who participated in our cleanup projects. We at the Bloomfield Development Corporation hope that everyone is able to use the vouchers, and enjoys the game of their choice.

In our continuing effort to clean up Liberty Avenue, a phone call was made to Pittsburgh Public Works to remove the graffiti from the large black trash cans. Less then a week later, the call was returned saying they would be sending a crew to take care of them. They did and they were done. They look great! Thanks Public Works for your quick response!

The Bloomfield Development Corporation has been working with the Mayor’s Office and has installed six new bike racks, with more to come. And the post office has responded to our request to either clean up or replace the graffiti-riddled mailboxes. After doing so, one was overlooked on the corner of Liberty and Pearl, but with one phone call it was replaced the next day! Thanks to both the Mayor’s Office and the Post Office for helping us beautify Bloomfield!

On the morning of July 10, twenty-eight Bloomfield Development Corporation volunteers picked up litter, cigarette butts and other trash along Liberty Avenue’s Main Street. Along with Bloomfield Landscaping volunteers, they also planted greenery and cleaned and weeded the tree beds. We realize that there are a lot of other things these volunteers could be doing on a beautiful Saturday morning, but we couldn’t do these cleanups without your help.

It is not too late to sign up for tomorrow’s Clean Sweep. We are meeting at Saint Joseph’s Church on Liberty Avenue at 9 a.m. Join us for coffee donated by Grasso Roberto before we start picking up litter, sweeping the sidewalks and beautifying the tree beds. Our last Clean Sweep made a noticeable difference in just two hours.

The Bloomfield Development Corporation along with Dollar Bank sponsored a Free Business Financing Workshop for existing and start-up businesses. It was held on April 26 at Alexander’s Italian Bistro, 5104 Liberty Avenue. While everyone enjoyed delicious appetizers, Colleen Molinero from Dollar Bank talked about the different loans available for small and new businesses and how to apply for them. She was followed by Raymond Garofalo also from Dollar Bank who explained how important a good personal credit score is and gave us tips on how to get and maintain one.
