Who is the Bloomfield Development Corporation (BDC)?
The Bloomfield Development Corporation was created in 2008 to address business and residential issues in Bloomfield. The Mission of the BDC is:
- To oversee the implementation of various economic development strategies such as business recruitment, business expansion, business and job development and pursuit of funding opportunities to achieve these goals.
- To address residential issues such as housing, public safety, and education to improve the quality of residential living.
The BDC serves residents, businesses, stakeholders and religious institutions in the community of Bloomfield, mostly within the 15224 zip code. The area includes the business corridor, Liberty Avenue from 40th Street to Baum Boulevard and the surrounding residential areas. The BDC is funded through the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) and Pittsburgh Partnership for Neighborhood Development (PPND) and has an active fundraising committee and corporate sponsorship program.
The Bloomfield Development Corporation:
- Operates under a Board of Directors, and has a staff of four.
- Collaborates with other city organizations including the Mainstreet Program, East End Partnership and Baum/Centre Planning Initiative.
- Other partners include West Penn Hospital, UMPC, Med-Express, PNC Bank, Citizens Bank, 5/3 Bank, First Commonwealth Bank, Fidelity Bank, and Comcast.
- Has regularly-scheduled community cleanups and is actively involved in developing greening and streetscape beautification strategies for Bloomfield.
- Supports neighborhood events such as Little Italy Days, Pittsburgh Marathon, the permanent Memorial for Fallen Heroes and Bloomfield Tri-Ward Baseball.
- Sponsors an annual Paul J. Sciullo II Community Service Award to two individuals that display exemplary community service in memory of our fallen police officer.

What is a Community Development Corporation (CDC)?
Community Development Corporation (CDC) is a broad term referring to a non-profit organization incorporated to provide programs, offer services and engage in activities that promote and support community development for both local residents and businesses. A CDC serves a geographic location such as a neighborhood or a town; most large neighborhoods in Pittsburgh have their own CDC. A CDC engages in community activities at all levels including economic development, education, community organizing and physical infrastructure and real estate development. CDCs operate to engage communities, individuals and businesses in uplifting and revitalizing their community.
