Bloomfield Events Calendar
Last fall, four film students came to Pittsburgh from L’Aquila, Italy, where their college was destroyed by an earthquake. They began work on a remarkable documentary about Italian-Americans in Pittsburgh, titled “Familiar and Strange.” Bloomfield is very prominent in the film.
Two of the filmmakers returned to complete the film. Happily, it was chosen as one of the opening night films of the 29th Annual Three Rivers Film Festival.
The film got such a good turnout — near capacity — that it is hard to believe that anyone missed it, but for those who did, it’s going to be broadcast on WQED December 9 at 7:30 p.m. It is a fascinating documentary, filled with the conflicted emotions of people who are happy in Pittsburgh, but left their heart in Italy!
