Bloomfield Development Corporation Receives 2010 National Trust Main Street Accreditation

Posted by Karla Owens on Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at 9:00 AM

The Bloomfield Development Corporation has been designated as an accredited National Main Street Program for meeting the commercial district revitalization performance standards set by the National Trust Main Street Center. Each year, the National Trust and its partners announce the list of accredited Main Street programs that have built strong revitalization organizations and demonstrate their ability in using the Main Street Four-Point Approach methodology for strengthening their local economy and protecting their historic buildings.

“We congratulate this year’s nationally accredited Main Street programs for meeting our established performance standards,” says Doug Loescher, director of the National Trust Main Street Center. “Accredited Main Street programs are meeting the challenges of the recession head on and are successfully using a focused, comprehensive revitalization strategy to keep their communities vibrant and sustainable.”

The organization’s performance is annually evaluated by Mainstreets Pittsburgh, which works in partnership with the National Trust Main Street Center to identify the local programs that meet 10 performance standards. These standards set the benchmarks for measuring an individual Main Street program’s application of the Main Street Four-Point Approach to commercial district revitalization. Evaluation criteria determines the communities that are building comprehensive and sustainable revitalization efforts and include standards such as development a mission, fostering strong public-private partnerships, securing an operating budget, tracking economic progress and preserving historic buildings. For more information on the national program accreditation program, visit www.preservationnation.org/main-street.

Congratulations on the achievements of the Bloomfield Development Corporation. For information on activities or to become a volunteer, please contact Karla Owens, Executive Director, or Terry Aiello, Mainstreets Manager at 412-687-9346.

One phone call! That’s all it took!

Posted by Terry Ford Aiello on Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at 10:38 AM

In our continuing effort to clean up Liberty Avenue, a phone call was made to Pittsburgh Public Works to remove the graffiti from the large black trash cans. Less then a week later, the call was returned saying they would be sending a crew to take care of them. They did and they were done. They look great! Thanks Public Works for your quick response!

Contact me if you see something that needs attention, or if you would like to volunteer for our next cleanup scheduled for September 18 to prepare for Little Italy Days the following weekend.
