Pittsburgh’s Little Italy Hits the New York Post
Bloomfield has gotten recognized in the news again. In the recently updated New York Post article “Steel Yourself for a whole new Pittsburgh“, Bloomfield was one of eight neighborhoods recognized for defining the city of Pittsburgh. The article looks at how Pittsburgh has redeveloped its industry and neighborhoods since the 1970s:
In the nearby Italian neighborhood of Bloomfield, things look much as they did generations ago. Well, except for that huge sign welcoming you to “Pittsburgh’s Little Italy” and the red, white and green parking meters along its main street, Liberty Avenue. But that’s about as touristy as it gets. Unlike New York’s Little Italy, Italians still live, work, eat and shop here as they have since the 1900s.
Author Jennifer Ceaser praises Bloomfield for keeping its roots, and cites the homemade Italian delicacies at Groceria Italiana and Donatelli’s Italian Food Center as examples. With its authentic Italian restaurants and shops, Bloomfield is really living up to its name of “Pittsburgh’s Little Italy”.
